Exchange Online Protection

Exchange Online Protection is a critical part of the Office 365 security system. It makes sure that your email is protected from spam and malware, and gives you tools to track and report on emails that violate your organization’s policies. You can also use Exchange Online Protection with other Office 365 services like SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, Skype for Business Online, Microsoft Teams and others so that you have end-to-end protection across all of them. The services is called Microsoft Defender for O365 or Cloud App Security

Better protection against spam and malware

Exchange Online Protection offers state-of-the-art spam filtering, content filtering and malware filtering.

For example, Exchange Online Protection can filter out unwanted messages using sophisticated pattern recognition technology that learns from past email traffic. If a message is flagged as spam, it’s stored in the junk mail folder of your mailbox instead of your inbox so you don’t have to see it.

Exchange Online Protection also uses machine learning to recognize phishing emails and other fraudulent messages designed to steal your personal information or compromise your account.

When you add an attachment to an email message in Outlook on the web or Outlook for iOS or Android it will automatically scan it for viruses before sending it so you can be confident that nothing has been added without your knowledge.

Enhanced protection for your inbox

Exchange Online Protection is a new service that helps protect your inbox against phishing and malware, malicious attachments and links, malicious scripts, and malicious macros.

Advanced messaging policies

Advanced messaging policies are the next step beyond basic mail flow rules. They allow you to control how messages are handled in specific situations. For example, if a message has an attachment that matches one of the blocked file extensions listed above, it could be sent to quarantine or rejected outright. You can also use advanced messaging policies to filter messages based on sender, recipient and subject line.

For example: If you have a policy that blocks all messages from any email address that ends with “@yourdomainname” without fail—and if there is no other type of rule set up for this domain—all emails from these addresses would be blocked without any exceptions being made.
